ANZAC Day at the nest

25 April 2026 • Gilbert Gordon Oval • Woodend Hesket vs Gisborne Giants

A COMMUNITY DAY

ANZAC Day at home has to be one of the highlights of this season. We had a full program of footy and netball across all grades, a commemorative service on the oval with the Woodend RSL, and the unveiling of our A Grade premiership flag. A big day for the club.

Before play got underway, Sarah Duff and Luke Bourke attended the Woodend RSL’s morning service and laid a wreath on behalf of the Junior and Senior club. we are grateful to them both for representing us.

COMMEMORATIVE SERVICE

At 4:00pm the ground went quiet. With the support of the Woodend RSL, we held a short service on the oval to mark the day, a chance to step back from the footy for a moment and remember those who have served.

Lest we forget.

PREMIERSHIP FLAG UNVEILED - A GRADE THREE-PEAT

The A grade netballers also unveiled their premiership flag. Three consecutive premierships is a serious achievement, and the A Grade girls were well worth celebrating. The flag is up, and it’s well earned.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and everyone who has been part of the program across those three seasons.

SENIOR FOOTBALL

The seniors got their first win of the season against the Giants, which was a good result and a long time coming. The boys have been working hard and it was good to get the reward on ANZAC Day.

Daniel Toman was exceptional through the midfield, finishing with 47 disposals, 7 clearances, and a goal. Tom Gawthrop also played an outstanding game. Best players: Max Panagiotopolous, Jack Binns, Tom Gawthrop, James Schmidt, William Wiseman, and Cormacc Wilson.
